Frequently Asked Questions About Flinchbaugh's Orchard & Farm Market

When will you harvest my favorite apple or peach or … ?
See our Harvest Calendar for approximate dates.  Remember, each season is different due to the effects of Mother Nature, so these dates are an estimate.  Contact us (717-252-2540) at least 1 week prior to the estimated date to ensure you are able to enjoy your favorites! Better yet, just stop by… we are sure you will find something delicious!

What growing methods do you use to produce your products?
Great question!  We are quite proud of the new and innovative methods we are implementing on the farm to produce our quality fruits and produce that ensure food safety, environmental stewardship and economic stability.

Are you able to ship your fruit to locations across the country?
Absolutely!  We are happy to ship our items to almost any location across the continental US within the appropriate season.  Just give us a call at 717-252-2540.  Our Gift Baskets are a wonderful and thoughtful present for your friends, family and clients.

How many apples or peaches do I need to make a 9″ pie?
We always like a nice and full pie, so we suggest 5 large apples (more if they are small) and approximately 6-8 peaches. Or buy one of our delicious, fresh baked pies instead! We offer several flavors, depending on the season, by the whole pie, half pie or slice.

What is a quart, 1/4 peck, 1/2 peck, peck and a 1/2 bushel?
Quart – holds 6 pieces of fruit (peach, apple, nectarine, apricots, plums, pears, etc). Approx. weight varies depending on the fruit, at least 3 pounds.

1/4 Peck – holds 8-10 pieces of fruit.  Approx weight 5 pounds.

1/2 Peck – holds 14-18 pieces of fruit.  Approx weight  9 pounds.

1 Peck – holds 28-34 pieces of fruit. Approx weight 14-16 pounds.

1/2 Bushel (also called a peach basket) – holds 50-65 pieces of fruit.  Approx. weight 24-28 pounds.

Are pets permitted on the premises at Flinchbaugh’s Orchard?
Dogs are permitted on the farm premises (in the corn maze, sunflower fields and pumpkin patch), but NOT in the Farm Market, Pick Your Own Orchards or on Wagon Rides, unless they are assistance pets.  Dog owners are required to appropriately clean up after their dogs and remove their trash.  In addition, your dog must be on a leash and be people friendly.  If there are concerns we do reserve the right to ask you to remove your dog from the premises.

Is Flinchbaugh’s Orchard handicap accessible?
Yes!  Our Farm Market and Pavilion are both easily accessible for handicap individuals.  Our pick-your-own orchards and pumpkin patch are on uneven ground, but can be accessed.  At this time, we unfortunately are unable to easily load our wagons with handicap equipment.

Do I want to buy hay or straw?
Hay is for horses!  Actually hay is for feeding animals, like horses, cows, goats, bunny rabbits, sheep, etc.  Straw serves the purpose as a mulch and bedding.  Keeping animal pens clean, gardens free of weeds (a layer of mulch keeps weeds from growing through), and decorating are all great uses of straw.  Read more about Hay and Straw.

Are we willing to donate items to charities and fundraisers?
The Flinchbaugh family actively supports the Eastern York Community and its neighbors.  Each year, we support various events with donations of fruits, gift cards, event tickets, and gift baskets.  We make every effort to contribute to the great organizations and charities in our local community. Please read our Donation Requests.
